Market Malaysia’s creative technology, says deputy minister

PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia’s creative technology industry has high quality and potential, but it is poorly marketed, Datuk Dr Abu Bakar Mohamad Diah said. The deputy minister of science, technology and innovation said the country can generate more income if it marketed its technology and inventions better. “Malaysians have won gold medals at innovation awards all over the world through their inventions. This is a recognition that proves our inventions are of world standard. “Yet, these inventions are seldom commercialised to generate income.

“We need to market our ¬technology to the world, as we have the potential, but we need to do it -better. “If Malaysia wants to become a high-income nation, it needs to be selling its own technology rather than buying technology from others,” he told a press conference here yesterday. As part of that effort, Dr Abu Bakar will be leading a Malaysian delegation at the London Technology Week this month to showcase the country’s creative technology industry. The two-day “Malaysia Creative Tech Showcase 2015” event will be held on June 15 and 16 at the Limkokwing University of Creative Technology’s London campus.

“The London Technology Week is a good platform for Malaysia in making its step abroad especially Europe. “There will be about 60,000 industry players who will be at the event and this is our chance to make our name,” Dr Abu Bakar said.
