The “Microcontroller-based Clinical Samples Arrival Alert System” is a specially designed device to assist Pathology Department in alerting their staff on the arrival of new clinical samples at reception counter. The main purpose of this innovation is to ensure good condition of the specimens for processing and results could be issued based on Laboratory Turn Around Time (LTAT) for the benefit of patients’ treatment especially during Covid-19 pandemic where the demand for frequent testing and its results are high and urgent. This product consists of magnetic switch sensor as the input and then rotary emergency lamp and alarm bell as the output. Arduino UNO, an open-source microcontroller board is used as the main controller for this product. Data logger module is connected to the controller to log data such as sample arrival time and sample taken time for the purpose of reporting and analysis of LTAT performance. By using this new alert system, it will increase the efficiency of clinical samples management system to get accurate and timely result especially for urgent test and during odd hour operations. In addition, it will also improve productivity of the staff and save the operating costs without compromising quality of the samples.
